Browser Timeout Keeps Happening on Nest Hub 2

Nest Hub 2 web browser timeout happens when the display reverts to the clock due to inactivity, but it is less than five minutes before the display switched. There is no way to go back to the page that you have displayed. Therefore, you must start from the beginning by searching the page again.

Most users choose Nest Hub 2nd generation because they use it as a hub for the kitchen. It works best to display recipes while listening to music, listening to podcast, while cooking. Therefore, if the problem with Nest Hub 2 web browser timeout keeps happening, then it is a big inconvenience.

Other users also mentioned that they have been using a voice command to open a web page. But, the browser screen keeps doing the same; time out. There is no way to go back to the page, or t set the page so it will not timeout. This is very frustrating when you must follow a cooking recipe.

How to Fix Nest Hub Web Browser Timeout

We have found some threads talking about how to fix this matter. We have collected the answers provided by the community specialist from Nest Hub Community, and we would like to share their answers here:

Sequential Reboot/ Restart Phone

Doing a sequential reboot can be the first choice to help you fix this matter. To do so, unplug the power cord first from the router, and then your Nest device.

After that, plug them back after 3-5 minutes tops. Or, you can restart your smartphone.

Factory Reset

It would also help a lot if you can do a factory reset. This will revert the feature back to the default and the original settings. After that, setting it up is a must.

Before performing the factory reset on your Nest Hub 2, make sure that you remove the Nest Hub from the Google Home app. After that, tap your Nest Hub and go to the gear icon located at the upper right corner. You can find the option to delete or remove it. Once done, then perform the factory reset and then set it up again.

Adjust the Idle Time

Another way to try for fixing this problem is by adjusting the idle time as the steps below:

  • Launch the Google Home app
  • Click the display device
  • Tap on the gear icon to launch the device settings
  • Scroll down to “Display”, click on it
  • Toggle the “turn off screen after xx minutes of inactivity” option.

Do Not Set Ambient Mode in Auto

  • Swipe up on the display
  • Tap on the icon located at the bottom of left corner of the screen.
  • If you find the letter “A”, set it in auto and then disable it.
  • Be sure the screen timeout is off.
  • Head to the recipe page and then let it untouched.
  • Monitor and see if it is in ambient mode or clock face, depends on the settings.

Once completed, pull up Google Home app. After that, choose the Nest Hub, and go to the gear icon located on the upper right corner and find “Display”. Scroll Down and find “Screen timeout”, and then switch the option “Turn off the screen after 5 minutes of inactivity” off to disable it.
