Using technology does not mean that you will get seamless experience. Sometimes, the software updates or other problems can trouble your days. One of the examples is when your Nest Hub Max gestures and face recognition stop working.
Nest Hub Max Gestures and Face Recognition
The big new highlight of Nest Hub Max is the camera. It offers some great features without sacrificing your privacy. The camera on this device is useful for many things. You can use it to start video calling through Google Duo. Other than that, Google Nest Hub Max can recognize faces and hand gestures.
It is because the device comes with Face Match system. It means that the camera is not constantly streaming, using the internet and watch every inch your move. It is genuinely useful.
When this device recognizes you, or your family member, it will display relevant information to whomever is standing in front of it. The information could be the calendar appointments, reminders, and other personal bits. When it sees you, you will hear a little chime, your photo, and a small greeting will be displayed on the screen. Well, it is like the device is more intelligent and smarter to make it more personal.
As you know, Nest Hub Max also can recognize you or your family member using Voice Match. For example, you can simply say, “Hey Google, Good morning”, and it will provide you some useful information such as the weather, news, and others. Assistant even can reply using different voices for different people, and that is so much fun!
When it comes to the gestures, it helps a lot to control media playback and assistant speech. Just show your hand, and it will pause video or audio. That is more than enough so you don’t have to touch or shout at the screen.
Fix Nest Hub Max Gestures and Face Recognition Stop Working
Now, what if Nest Hub Max gestures and face recognition stop working? Based on a report, when a user did a factory reset on this device, deleted or re-added it to Google Home app, to fix a problem whereby the camera was not running.
Then, the camera is working, but the Nest Hub Max does not recognize face. It does not display the flashing dots or it does not respond any voice commands. It also does not respond hand in front of the display to pause or stop media playback. This feature was working fine before a factory reset. Now, how to restore the face recognition and hand gestures on Nest Hub Max?
1. Set Up the Face Match and Quick Gestures Again
If you got the same issue, you need to set up Face Match and Quick Gestures again. It is because you have performed a factory reset on Nest Hub Max.
Setting up Face Match means that you need to set up the Voice Match on the Nest Hub Max. Once finished, then the Google Home app will lead to Face Match setup. If you have already set up the Voice Match, now you can follow the instruction below:
- Your Nest Hub Max must recognize you. Be sure that the camera of this smart hub has a clear display of your face. Reduce the backlighting, so your face is properly lit.
- Take picture during the set up with enough lighting, not too dark and not too light. There should be no shadows on face. When capturing your face, do not move too fast.
To set up quick gestures on the Nest Hub Max, here are the instructions to follow:
- Connect your smartphone or tablet using the same WiFi or same account of your Google Nest Hub Max.
- Launch the Google Home app
- Tap on favorite or devices.
- Tap and then hold the device’s tile
- Tap on the Settings icon, select Recognition and Sharing.
- Enable Quick Gestures
If this step is complete, and the problem still there, go with the second method below.
2. Power Cycle The Hub
Once done, it should work.
That is the guideline to fix your issue. It is important to know that when you disable Voice Match on Nest Hub Max, it will also disable the Face Match. To use the Face Match, do not disable the Voice Match.
