Setting Up Google Nest Hub and Hub Max for Video Calls
When you want to use Google’s Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max to start voice calls or video calls, it is possible to do. However, make sure that you set up Google Meet or Zoom first to use your hubs for video calls. These devices are not compatible for WhatsApp video call and FaceTime as well.
When you are starting video call on Google Nest Hub, you will see the video of the person you are calling. But, this person cannot see you because there is no Camera available on the Nest Hub.
If you want to set up video calls on Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max by using Zoom or Meet, here are the steps to follow:
- Launch the Google Home app
- Hit the Settings icon
- Scroll down, and under Services, choose “Communication”
- Select “Video & Voice Apps”

Start a Video Call on Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max
As explained above, you can use the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max to start a video call. You need to set up your Google Meet or connect your Zoom account. Once the setup process completed with Google Meet, starting a video call is easy using Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max as below:
- Say “Hey Google” or “Okay Google”
- Continued by “Video call [Name of the contact person]”
To end the video call is very simple. Hit on the “End Call” on the display. Alternatively, say “Ok Google, End Call”.
When you want to host a video call using Google Meet or Zoom, you can do the following steps:
- Create a Google Calendar invite from your laptop or your phone
- Send the invite to the person you want to add to the video call. Alternatively, share the meeting ID with them.
- If you are using Meet, select “Add Google Meet video conferencing” option
- If you are using Zoom, be sure that the meeting ID exist in your Google calendar
- To continue, say “Okay Google, join my next meeting”
- Your Nest (Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max) will join in the next meeting based on your calendar
- Or, you can say “Hello Google, start a Zoom call”.
Setting Up Voice Calls for Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max
You can make voice calls from all Google Home speakers and displays. There are three ways to use voice call on Google speakers and displays, but the features and the availability depends on countries.
Google Meet lets speakers and displays make and receive video and voice calls for anyone by using a Google Meet account. Well, this is available for worldwide users, supports calls between displays or speakers, mobile devices, and for free calls.
Google provided calling to allow free audio calls to landline, mobile, and business phone members. However, you cannot receive calls and the service is only available in the UK, US, and Canada.
The third choice is mobile calling, supporting you to link your own speaker with your mobile carrier plan. You cannot receive calls and you will only use it with particular carriers in the US (Google Voice and Google Fi) and Telstra for Australia.
To start Meet calling and set up your Google Home speakers and displays, here are the following instructions:
- Launch the Google Home app
- Hit the Settings icon
- Scroll down and choose ‘Communication’ under services
- Select Video & Voice Apps
- Choose Google Meet and complete the setup instructions
To setup your Google Home speakers and displays for Google Supported calling, here are the instructions:
- Launch the Google Home app
- Select the Home icon at the bottom
- Choose the speaker or display you want to set up to start Google Supported calling
- Select the Settings cog (top right corner)
- Scroll down and tap on ‘Recognition & Sharing’
- Turn on ‘Allow Personal results’
Besides, you have to turn on ‘Web & App Activity’ in your Google Account to start having a call to your contacts. Here are the instructions to follow:
- Launch the Google Home app
- Select your account (top right corner)
- Be sure that the Google Account listed is the same account as the one connected to Google Home
- Select ‘Manage your Google Account’
- Choose ‘Data & privacy’
- Enable ‘’Web & App Activity’, tick it.
By turning on Voice Match, you will allow more members of your home to use their contacts to start calling on your Google Home speaker/ display. If you want to give access to multiple people using their contacts from the same device, then you must set up a Voice Match for each person. Here are the instructions to set it up:

- Select on Settings
- Scroll down and tap on Google Assistant

Starting Voice Calls on Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max
If you want to start a voice call from your speaker or display (Google Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max) it is very easy. Just say “Hey Google”, and then follow the instructions below:
- “Call [contact person name]”
- “Call [business name].”
- “What is the nearest [business]?” then “OK Google,” “Call.”
- “Call [phone number].”
- “Redial.”
